Adding to that veritable treasure trove of releases, they also just announced another new horror film set to release somewhere down the line, featuring an up-and-coming director and an A-list star who is returning to the genre for the first time in years.
According to an exclusive report fromDeadline, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are teaming up with Spin a Black Yarn to release a horror film based on Josh Malerman’s novelIncidents Around the House.Universal Pictures will be distributing the film, and the production team has brought onRob Savageto direct the picture, withSuccessionscribeNathan Elstonpenning the script. The biggest get of all has to beJessica Chastain, though. The last time the Oscar winner appeared in a straight-up horror flick was back in 2019’sIt Chapter Two.
Jessica Chastain Is Returning To The Horror Genre WithIncidents Around The House
AlthoughJessica Chastaindidn’t fully break out as a Hollywood star until she was in her mid-30s, the Julliard School-educated actor has had quite a storied career. After appearing in various projects likeVeronica Mars,ER, andJoleneearly on, Chastain hit the big time in 2011 thanks to the three-headed monster ofThe Tree of Life,Take Shelter, andThe Help. In 2012, Chastain headlinedZero Dark Thirtyas it became a surprise box office hit and earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Since then, the California native has never shied away from coupling her major Hollywood gigs with more experimental fare. Take 2017, for example: she narrated and executive produced theI Am Jane Doedocumentary, headlined Aaron Sorkin’sMolly’s Game, starred in the WesternWoman Walks Ahead, and acted in and executive produced the WWII dramaThe Zookeeper’s Wife. Chastain won’t be the only big name working onIncidents Around the House, at least not to horror aficionados. DirectorRob Savageis on board, five years after hitting the big time with 2020’sHost. Amazingly, Savage and his team shot the film entirely on Zoom software over 12 weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic. After spending years on the production side of the business, Nathan Elston flipped to the writing side of the business, officially working on five episodes ofSuccessionas a member of the program’s writing room. This project, assuming it comes to fruition, based onIncidents Around the House,will be his first screenplay. With Atomic Monster andBlumhouse Productionsat the helm, horror diehards will be awaiting this one with bated breath.
