Given the controversy surrounding his casting andHenry Cavill being pushed to one side after seemingly teasing his return to the role, there are a lot of eyes onSuperman, and whether or not he will perform. But more importantly, there is going to be a lot of focus on Corenswet and how he delivers the popular character.

With Superman being such an important IP for DC Studios, this movie does need to deliver, and co-CEO James Gunn is well aware of that. That’s why he speaks about the movie at length whenever he’s had the opportunity in a bid to build as much hype as possible. During an interview withTIME, Gunn spoke about what his leading man has been like to work with. The formerGuardians of the Galaxydirectorhas plenty of experience with actors in this environment, and it’s evident that Corenswet is impressing him in a unique way. Gunn said, “David’s a pain in the ass because he asks a ton of questions about every single little moment. But I honestly think my favorite moments were when I would get irritated by his endless questions and indulge him anyway, and then I’d see him turn those questions into something magical in his performance.”

The fact that Corenswet appears sopassionate about playing Supermanis likely going to be music to the ears of fans. It’s no secret that there have been some question marks surrounding his casting and whether or not the right decisions were made, and even the initial trailer did little to calm those nerves. However, it’s undeniable that there is a tremendous amount of buzz surrounding this movie that will place plenty of pressure on Corenswet.

Hearing that he’s actively asking questions and wanting to get the best out of the role is a brilliant situation for fans, as he obviously wants to bring the best performance possible. It’s a big movie for the studios, especially since Gunn has confirmed that they won’t be using Robert Pattinson’s Batman and will be casting someone else in that role. It has led to people wondering whetherhaving multiple Batman in the movie industryat the same time would be a good idea due to how iconic Batman is. The potential risks involved in that decision have only increased the pressure on Corenswet as Superman is DC Studios' other primary IP, and if the franchise is going to work, then he needs to be at the heart of it.

The recent CinemaCon has increased the chatter around this movie after it was pushed heavily, and it is clear thatDC Studios believes in the upcoming filma lot. They want it to be a success as much as the fans do, and given that Corenswet is just as invested, it feels like Superman is heading toward being a hit. If everything ends up working out as intended, then this could be the start of a very positive relationship between Gunn and Corenswet, which will benefit theSupermanfranchise.
