Summary
Arkane Studios founder Raphaël Colantonio has commented on whether he’d be willing to work on a potential third game in theDishonoredseries. Despite leaving Arkane in 2017 and later founding WolfEye Studios, Colantonio still has a soft spot forDishonored.
The originalDishonoredwas released in 2012, before being followed up by the sequel in 2016. Both were unique action-stealth titles that offered players multiple solutions to every problem, tied together with a unique gothic aesthetic that remains distinctive to this day. Despite being arguably one of thebest stealth video game franchisesever, it has been dormant ever since the 2017 spin-off,Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Arkane’s 2021 titleDeathloopwas set in the same universe, but was not marketed as part of the same franchise.
Speaking on the Quad Damage podcast, Arkane founder Raphaël Colantonio said, “I’d love to, I mean, we’re talking about totally hypothetical at this point… I could see myself working onDishonored 3right now because it’s been so long that, you know, why not? I would revisit that.” Players hoping to seeDishonored 3any time shouldn’t hold their breath, though. Colantonio’s current developerWolfEye Studios is working on a new game of its own, and there’s certainly no suggestion he’d ever actually return to Arkane Studios, making his comments extremely hypothetical.
Arkane Founder Would “Love To” Work on Dishonored 3
Colantonio did comment on whether he had ever hadplans forDishonored 3, stating, “I had a document aboutDishonored 3, Harvey [Smith] has a document aboutDishonored 3, I think Dinga [Bakaba] has one too. Dinga is the current boss of Arkane and Harvey was my co-creator director onDishonored, Harvey Smith. So yeah, we have ideas. I don’t think it would make sense to talk about it… which of those three versions will ever see the day, I think we’re talking about science fiction at this point.”
With both Harvey Smith and Raphaël Colantonio not working at Arkane anymore, it’s unlikely that their versions ofDishonored 3will ever be released. At the moment,Arkane Studios is working onMarvel’s Blade, which was first announced at the end of 2023. That’s not to say that Arkane won’t return to its gothic stealth-action franchise in the future, but the current nine-year wait for a mainline sequel is very likely to extend to a decade and beyond.
