One of the biggest decisions a player has to make when they’re building their Exile inPath of Exile 2is what Ascendancy to pick. This is a defining feature of a build and has a massive impact on viability.
Thankfully, GGG allows players to respec their Ascendancy and reroll their character into a different build. However, unlike the passive skill tree and theAtlas Skill tree, which only require a small gold amount per node, the process of respeccing an Ascendancy is a lot more involved. Here is how it works.
How to Respec Ascendancy in PoE 2
The process of respeccing an Ascendancy is quite similar tounlocking Ascendancy classes inPath of Exile 2. All players need to do isreattempt a Trial of the Sekhemas or a Trial of Chaos to change their Ascendancy. However, the process is slightly different depending on your character’s level of Ascension. Here are thepatch notes:
Completing an Ascendancy Trial for the second time (Trial of the Sekhemasor Trial of Chaos) will allow players to change their character’s Ascendancy selection. However, this option will only be available if the Trial you have completed corresponds to the amount of Ascendancy points you have.
So, if you have a character who has only unlocked their first two Ascension points, i.e., they’ve only completed the Trial at the lowest difficulty, they will be able to change their Ascendancy easily. However, if you havea character who has unlocked all eight Ascension points and has completed the 4th Ascendancy Trial at the highest level (e.g., by defeating Zarokh, the Temporal), they will only have the option to change their Ascendancy if they complete a Trial of the same level, with a level 75+ Inscribed Ultimatum (Trialmaster) or a Level 75+ Djinn Barya (Zarokh). Even if these max Ascension level characters complete a lower-level variant of the Ascendancy Trial, they will not see the option to change Ascendancy.
Secondly, to change Ascendancy, players will first have to remove any allocated points from their Ascendancy-exclusive Skills before interacting with the Ascension Device. Luckily, you will not need to travel back to your hideout to do so; Balbala in the Trial of the Sekhemas and Trialmaster in the Trial of Chaos will appear next to the device and allow you to remove these points.
Make sureyou have enough Goldto remove your Ascendancy points before venturing into a Trial for a respec. The Gold cost can get staggeringly high at later levels.
