InPath of Exile 2, Azmerian Wisps are the manifestation of Azmeri Animal Guardians in the world of Wraeclast, appearing at random throughout the campaign and later on as ethereal entities floating in space.
While there is an in-game tutorial about what these Spirits are and how they interact with the environment, the game doesn’t explain this mechanic in detail. For players hoping to hunt down the Azmeri Spirits and collect the rewards, here’s everything you need to know.
What Are Azmerian Wisps in PoE 2
Azmerian Wisps, or Azmeri Spirits, are non-targetable ghost-like creatures that can be found in both the campaign andthe endgame. Approaching an Azmerian Wisp will make them move away from the player character along a fixed route. They will move faster if you’re close to them and will slow down if you fall behind. However, if you leave their area of influence for too long, they will disappear from the map. This is indicated by a large light formation surrounding the wis.
The Azmerian Wisp mechanic is only unlocked after players complete‘The Hunt Begins’quest in Grelwood in Act 1.
The route an Azmeri Spirit takes leads to Rare or Unique monsters that they will possess when they reach it. Along the way, any normal or magic monsters it encounters receive a buff corresponding to the type of Azmerian Wisp (different Wisps give different buffs). The more Spirit-influenced monsters a player defeats along the way, the higher the reward for defeating the final possessed monster will be.
When the Azmerian Wisp reaches the end of its route, it will possess the monster. Possessed monsters not only receive the normal monster buff but also gain access to a special possession ability inherent to the Azmerian Wisp. The Azmeri Spirit will appear in animal spirit form, aiding the possessed monster with unique skills. When these monsters are defeated, they will dropTalismans, a special type of Rune, in addition to the other rewards.
Sacred Azmerian Wisps in PoE 2
Players can also sometimes encounter Sacred Wisps, ararer variant of the Azmerian Wisp. Sacred Wisps are functionally the same as normal Wisps but have extra special abilities exclusive to them. The Sacred Wisp of the Cunning Fox, for example, will turn normal monsters into magic monsters, magic monsters into rare monsters, and rare monsters into bosses.
Sacred Wisp abilities make it so that completing the associated challenge is much harder than normal, but the rewards are appropriately increased as well.
Where to Find Azmerian Wisps in PoE 2
Azmerian Wisps spawn randomly throughout the campaign and the endgame, but there are a few ways to increase the overall encounter rate.
