Tom Felton, who portrayed antagonist-turned-complex character Draco Malfoy in theHarry Pottermovie series, spoke with People ahead of the Harry Potter Shop in Chicago opening on April 9. The newest shop was designed with a Goblet of Fire-themed. The actor, who was only 12 in the first film, said the store brought him back to the time when they were still filming the hit movie franchise, and his experience there was “magical.” During the interview, he revealed that he regularly speaks to his on-screen dad,Jason Isaacsand that the original cast members have a WhatsApp group. According to him, he just took a video of the newly opened store and sent it to them.
They haven’t spoken about theupcomingHarry PotterTV series, but Felton believed everyone was thrilled that the magic of the hit franchise will live on. “I think we’re all very excited to see the wizarding world continue,” he said. Felton also jokingly shared his plan for the next actor who would portray his character, Draco, and how he would sneak on set. He said:
I look forward to knocking on young Draco’s door and surprising him, or something like that. I’ll definitely be sneaking into a background shot as an extra.
Several cast members have already reacted to HBO’s upcomingHarry PotterTV series. Most are excited, with some like Felton expressing interest in making a cameo. Matthew Lewis, who portrayed Neville Longbottom, said he would consider appearing in the show if the production would approach him. Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley, was also open to appearing on the TV show, saying, “Never say never, never say no,” if there was a chance for her to reprise her role in the show. She was hoping that the TV series could cover more details from the book, which the movies had to skip due to limited hours.
Radcliffe, the main protagonist, however, wasn’t keen on appearing on the show because he felt that the series wanted a fresh start. It was previously announced that they wanted a younger audience to play the lead roles. However, Radcliffe expressed his support to the young actors who would portray the characters they previously played on the big screen. Isaacs also named an actor who couldpotentially portray his character, Lucius Malfoy, in the series. Surprisingly, he named a female actor — Meryl Streep. According to Isaacs, Streep “can do anything.” However, this might be unlikely because Lucius is a male character, and his role is tied to him being a father figure and the patriarch of a pure-blood aristocratic family. The cast for theHarry PotterTV series hasn’t been announced yet, except forJohn Lithgow, who is set to play Professor Albus Dumbledore.
