Summary

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2is one of Blumhouse’s most highly anticipated sequels, and whilethe December 5th, 2025 release date is still a long way away, fans are eagerly imagining what the next part of the creepy story is going to look like. In January 2025,fans got a look at Matthew Lillard as William Afton, and since he was such an unforgettable part of the first movie, the dark character will no doubt play a significant role in the sequel, too.

Those who have played theFive Nights at Freddy’sgames know that Afton is fairly mysterious, and that’s why fans have strong feelings about what Afton’s storyline should look like in the upcoming horror sequel. WhenFive Nights at Freddy’s 2comes out this December, fans hope to see one thing from Lillard’s character. This idea would ensure that the sequel is compelling.

“We need flashbacks. I’d hate for all of Lillard’s screen time to be behind a mask.”

While it seems likeWilliam Afton dies at the end ofFive Nights at Freddy’s 2, he could still be alive. It’s also possible thatAfton comes back in another form, such as in the yellow Springtrap suit. But regardless of whether he is really dead or not, it would be fun to see flashback scenes of Afton. This would be a smart way to feature Lillard in the movie and, as a fan pointed out, ensure he gets enough screen time. It’s interesting to note that Lillard is coming back to two sequels where he appears to die in the previous film. WhileLillard is starring inScream 7, his character Stu Macher seems to die in the first movie released in 1996, which has sparked similar questions about the actor’s return.

There is so muchFive Nights at Freddy’slorethat the sequel can get into, and since the second game is a prequel, it would be interesting if the movie has some flashbacks. WhiletheFive Nights at Freddy’s 2teaser trailershows the animatronics out in the world and the story’s universe is clearly expanding, it also feelsnecessary to tell more of Afton’s story. Fans of course know about his disturbing history of killing children at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. But what happened to him when he was younger that made him start his killing spree? The sequel should stay true to the games, but it’s also possible to add a bit more information and detail to flesh out this character more.

Like Ethan Hawke’s brutal villain The Grabber inThe Black Phone, which is getting a sequel in 2025, Afton is so terrifying because he targets innocent kids. But who was he before he put his evil plan in motion? Was he a seemingly regular person, which would make his spree even more chilling, or was there always something scary and off about him? Afton is an effective villain, but audiences want to know a lot more about him. While flashbacks of Lillard’sScreamcharacter Stu would be fun, he wasn’t the mastermind behind the plan. But since Afton came up with his horrible idea, there’s so much that could be explained here.
