Summary

ExtraEmily, a popular streamer and member of Texas-based media group One True King, has shared a live video stream of herself seemingly driving through a red light. ExtraEmily has a history of showing her traffic-based blunders by streaming them onTwitch, but this latest incident has many fans upset.

Since 2020, ExtraEmily, real name Emily Xuechun Zhang, has been creating a variety of real-world content on streaming and video platforms, becoming a Twitch partner in 2021.One True King signed ExtraEmilyto its brand in January 2023, and less than two months later, she was nominated for Best IRL Streamer at The Streamer Awards. She was also the most nominated streamer at the 2024 event, for which she co-hosted the red carpet event.

But her two years with OTK have not been without its share of traffic-related controversies, including the timeExtraEmily was banned on Twitch, and a recent stream has added to that list. About 37 and a half minutes into her most recentTwitch stream, while driving to aBarbie-themed cafe in Austin, ExtraEmily approached a traffic light and began verbally repeating “ooh” and “uhh” as the light turned red, then proceeded to drive through it roughly three seconds later without appearing to attempt to slow her vehicle. A short snippet of this stream showing the apparent traffic violation has been shared on Twitter by Dexerto, and reactions have been overwhelmingly negative. “That’s not quirky, that’s just wildly illegal and dangerous,” one highly-rated comment reads.

ExtraEmily’s Twitch-Streamed Traffic Violation Draws Negative Attention

ExtraEmily appeared to be alone in the vehicle at the time and was using a hands-free mount for her phone, but she was repeatedly switching between showing her face and the road in front of her. She had switched to the road view seconds before the traffic light changed and stopped almost immediately after at a second traffic light before switching the camera back to her face and declaring, “O.K., no problem. That happens all the time.” She then complained that traffic lights in Austin are “really long, so usually I just go past.” In September 2023, another stream sawExtraEmily get into a fender bender, though in that incident, she was stopped at a red light when another driver’s vehicle struck her car’s rear end.

Those aren’t the only documented traffic incidents involving the streamer that have appeared on her Twitch channel. During a trip to New York City in July 2024,ExtraEmily hit a stationary police carwhile operating a rental bicycle while in the process of passing another bicyclist to her right. The repeated traffic incidents has upset some fans.
