Summary

Transformations have become a signature of theDragon Ballfranchise, and fans eagerly await to see new transformations whenever a newDragon Ballseries is announced. However, sometimes fans can get a little confused by so many names for different transformations.

For example, Gohan eventually unlocks a form officially called Ultimate, becoming “Ultimate Gohan”. But there is also a form called Final Gohan. With such similar names, are these the same transformation? Well, not really. So, what’s the difference between Ultimate Gohan and Final Gohan?

What Is Ultimate Gohan in Dragon Ball?

A Transformation Gohan Unlocks in DBZ

Ultimate is a transformation that is unlocked when a character is able to release their hidden powers, sometimes also called “dormant strength”. It allows them to use their latent powers to the highest level possible.

This means that any character in the series would be able to unleash their Ultimate form — the difference is that, since each person has a different potential power, the strength achieved by unlocking Ultimate varies from person to person.

In the series, Gohan achieves it by performing a ritual in which Old Kai unleashedhis potential powers in the Buu Saga(inDragon Ball Z). Unlike other transformations, Gohan’s appearance doesn’t actually change into his Ultimate form.

While any character can unlock Ultimate, Gohan and Piccolo (“Power Awakening”) are the only “Dragon Team members” to unleash this transformation in the series, but it would be nice to see other characters achieve their Ultimate forms, especially the human ones, as they were sidelined when the franchise started focusing on SSJ and power levels. A few other characters use Ultimate in the games, but the form is still explored in a limited way.

What Is Final Gohan in Dragon Ball?

A Transformation Introduced in DBS

Final Gohan waswhat Beast Gohan was referred to in the first drafts, which means that “Final Gohan” is not the official name of this form. Anyway, this is a transformation that Gohan unlocks in the movieDragon Ball Super: Super Hero. It was later introduced to the Super Hero Saga in theDragon Ball Supermanga, making it an undeniable canon form.

In the series, this form is apparently exclusive to Gohan (at least, up to this point), but other characters have Beast formsinDragon Ball Xenoverse 2, which may or may not be a sign that other characters could potentially unlock Beast.

The Beast within me… has awoken.

Once in Beast form, Gohan’s hair and eyebrows turn platinum/white, his eyes turn red and his hair grows to about the same size of his Super Saiyan 2 form. He first unleashed it when he was angry after thinking that Piccolo was dead, and this isthe most powerful form Gohan has achieved in the story(so far).

However,it has been confirmed that Beast is not a divine transformation, which means that Gohan may be able to unlocka transformation that surpasses Beast.

Is It Possible to Mix Ultimate and Final Forms?

Not Really, But They Are Sort of Connected

Unfortunately, Ultimate and Final forms are mutually exclusive, since they are both transformations (and a character generally can’t transform into two things at the same time). Actually,Beast could be considered the evolution of Ultimate(which is probably why it was first called Final), and it took some time for Gohan to master this form inDragon Ball Super.
