Summary
The hotly anticipated sequel series,Dexter: Resurrection, is fast approaching its release on Paramount + with Showtime. An official premiere date hasn’t yet been announced, but it has been confirmed to drop sometime over the summer. The promotional push has already begun, with Michael C. Hall and Clyde Phillips discussing the upcoming project with Vanity Fair last week.Phillips spoke about the return of Miguel Prado, and it led to a lot of speculation over what role the villain might be set to have.
Miguel Prado was killed byDexter Morganback in the third season of the original series, but his popularity with fans has never dwindled, and Jimmy Smits' return is exciting. John Lithgow will also be returning as the Trinity Killer in the new series, and his particular role could be a significant hint as to what to expect from Smits' return as Prado.

John Lithgow’s role as Arthur ‘Trinity Killer’ MitchellinDexter’s fourth season will go down as one of the greatest villainous performances in television history. Lithgow returned for a brief cameo in the limited series,Dexter: New Blood, in a flashback sequence, revealing an interaction withHarrison Morgan, during Rita Bennett’s brutal murder. The Dexter-verse has always been open to revisiting dead characters and the sequel series,Resurrection, will bring iconic villains, the Trinity killer and Miguel Prado back.John Lithgow teased how this might happen in an interview withVariety:
I just went back to do a day. They’re rebooting the entire Michael C. Hall version of ‘Dexter.’ And it turns out he didn’t die after all. I come back sort of as a phantom, as he gradually comes to life on a hospital bed.
Of course, Lithgow is joking about his own ‘resurrection’, as it’s clearly only Dexter who can come back from the dead. However, the second part, about him being a ghostly phantom as his old nemesis comes to life in hospital, makes more sense. In an interview withVanity Fair,Resurrection’s showrunner, Clyde Phillips, stated:
John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits will be in for a minute.
This heavily suggests Jimmy Smits' Miguel Prado return will be in a similar vein to Lithgow’s Trinity comeback.
Miguel Prado’s Comeback In Dexter: Resurrection Will Probably Be A Ghostly Apparition
Michael C. Hall revealed thatDexter was actually alivein an interview with Variety last year, soon after he announced he was returning in the sequel series,Resurrection. The news shocked the fan base, and the excitement about the iconic serial killer’s return began.Michael C. Hall appeared inOriginal Sin’sopening sequence, as Dexter was rushed to hospital, and his life was saved. As per John Lithgow’s comments,Arthur ‘Trinity’ Mitchell will return to haunt Dexter during his recovery, and this could also be how Miguel Prado returns as well.Imagine this: John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits sharing the screen as they both taunt Dexter from the grave. Now that would be the ultimate fan service, and there aren’t many fans who would complain about that. Of course, purely speculation, but it would be an interesting route to take.
Alternatively,Miguel Prado could have his own scene with Dexter Morgan, but fans shouldn’t expect too much screen time for the iconic villainafter Clyde Phillips comments. ADexter fan editalso teased the potential return ofThe Ice Truck Killer. Maybe all three villains share the screen as Dexter experiences an extreme fever dream as he fights for his life after being shot in the chest. The possibilities are endless, and fans will find out soon enough, whenResurrectionhits television screens this summer. It was recently confirmed that Peter Dinklage will be the main villain in Resurrection, and it looks very likely that he could be up there with Trinity and Miguel Prado as thebest villains in the Dexter-verse.
