Summary
The first season ofDaredevil: Born Againjust wrapped up. Its showrunner shared an update about the series that fans will surely love.
Daredevil: Born Againpremiered on Disney+ on July 15, 2025. It serves as a continuation of Netflix’s original Daredevil series, with Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. It also features returning characters like Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), andFoggy Nelson (Elden Henson), to name a few. The first season aired nine episodes, with the finale released on April 15. The Season 1 finale seemingly suggests the need to assemble a group to take down Fisk. With this, the first thing that comes to mind is the Defenders — Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand. The showrunner recently shared whether they plan to bring back the other Defenders from Josie’s inDaredevil.
Entertainment Weeklyasked showrunner Dario Scardapane if he was considering a reunion for the Defenders as he mapped out Season 2. He confirmed that the idea crossed their mind. “Without giving too much away…when you’re working in what I would call the Hell’s Kitchen corner of theMCU, those iconic characters are always in your mind,” Scardapane explained. He added that they wanted to bring back people who had relationships with Matt because they contributed to his story, especially to the part where Fisk takes over the city. He also mentioned “resistance and rebellion” before confirming that there would be vigilantes, superheroes, and civilians involved due to the events happening in the city. However, they didn’t want to just bring anyone randomly. They wanted a “completely organic story,” and there should be a purpose and reason for anyone featured in the show. He added:
So the easiest answer to your question is, yes, those characters that you just listed off are absolutely in my head and everybody’s head as we’re working.
Daredevil: Born Again Could Be Bringing Back The Netflix Era Of Marvel Shows With A Defenders Team-Up
Scardapane also admitted that it would be tricky for the writers and a “pretty closely guarded secret at this point.” He added that when it came to this issue, he would be “intentionally cagey” but clarified that a Defenders reunion was something in their mind. He also made it clear that the Luke in the first season who escorted Gallo was not Luke Cage. Scardapane is aware that fans have been looking for Easter eggs, but while there are a few, Luke isn’t among them. There are rumors thatKrysten Ritter is the first of the Defendersto joinDaredevil: Born Again. In February, she posted on her Instagram Story that she would be in New York City. At about the same time, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, announced thatDaredevil: Born AgainSeason 2 would start filming in the Big Apple.
Bringing Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist inDaredevil: Born AgainSeason 2 will be a fan service. Fans of the originalDefenderswould love to see the reunion and acknowledge these characters' connection. Also, doing so will validate the continuity of theNetflixera and reward its longtime viewers. Additionally,Daredevilhas a compelling chemistry with them, and their contrasting morals will add depth and tension to the show. For instance, Daredevil often struggles with morality, justice, and redemption, and Jessica has her own dark journey that can mirror and challenge his beliefs, making for great storytelling. Additionally, they could establish a more grounded story and possibly open doors for potential spinoffs or crossovers with other Marvel shows.
