This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again Episode 7Things came to a head in this episode ofDaredevil: Born Againwith Muse seemingly losing control over his serial killer persona. Meanwhile, one of the opening lines in the show confirms that indeed, Matt Murdock has given up trying to fight putting on theDaredevilsuit. As Wilson Fisk says just before the opening credits rolled: “he’s back.”
Meanwhile, Fisk, Kingpin, or Mr. Mayor, whichever he’d like to be called these days, is dealing with his own dual persona. As the audience knew,both men would from the very first episode. The juxtaposition of how they struggle with it is interesting in that one man is letting the mask slip, while the other keeps slipping it on. Unless, of course, you agree with the notion that it’s Daredevil that is the real identity and Matt Murdock is just the disguise.
“Art for Art’s Sake”

“Art for Art’s Sake” covers a little less ground than thetwo episodes that airedlast week. Instead, the focus is mostly on what Cherry rightfully calls Matt “blowing up his own life” where he unabashedly goes on thehunt for Muse,who managed to escape from the two men’s battle in the previous installment.
Meanwhile, back at the mayor’s office, Wilson is more than a little angry that the Man Without Fear is back in all his glory. He went on a long rant to Buck Cashman explaining how he believes that Murdock is actually the villain because his actions took down his own version of a jobs program. And the two talk about finding a way to stop man in the mask in any way possible. And tostop any other vigilanteswho might show up.
Unbeknownst to either man on either side of the law, they are both hunting for the same serial killer. Now that theyknow Muse is realand what he looks like (at least in his costume), there’s a city-wide search on. Regular police, Matt Murdock, and Wilson’s special task force are all on the hunt. What they don’t know as the episode goes on is that Muse isn’t really hiding anymore. He’s sitting in Heath Glenn’s office.
The biglove interest in Season 1 ofDaredevil: Born Againis Heather and while she’s a well known author and therapist, in the series she essentially has two clients. There’s the Fisks and then there’s Bastion Cooper. Bastion is the young man who approached Heather early in the series asking her for help and the show let that storyline mostly drop since he first made his appearance. It turns out there was a reason for that.
Wilson Fisk: The Job Creator?
Daredevil: Born Againwanted to hold back the big reveal that it finally allowed in Episode 7. As Bastion is meeting with Heather and talking about how his parents mistreated him, the show has a simultaneous scene where police detective Angie Kim. Kim briefs the mayor about what she’s found in her investigation into Muse and believes she’s figured out who theman behind that particular maskis in real life. It turns out that while she explains he’s an accomplished martial artist, the show makes it clear Detective Kim has indeed found her man.
Bastion talks about how he hated his parents and hated martial arts, but he also learned plenty. Then, he fully lets the cat out of the bag, showing his “true self” to Heather and then deciding that she will be the next victim. It appears this is mainly because she figured out his alternate persona while he talked about his “true self” and his real desires.
How Does Daredevil: Born Again Episode 7 End?
Muse Is Bastion, Bastion Is Muse
With Heather trapped in her office by Muse/Bastion he begins to make her another piece of his art. He starts draining her of her blood and is preparing to kill her entirely, but before he finish the job, Daredevil shows up and very painfully stops him. The two fight while the police are moving into the same apartment, acting off the intel of Bastion being a client of Heather.
Eventually, Heather is able to struggle to Muse’s gun, which has been dropped in the fight with Dardevil and she shoots the killer artist several times, killing him. Daredevil then escapes just before the police burst in, who promptly take credit for the kill. Later, at the hospital, Heather regains consciousness and tells Matt that she felt as though the “other man in the room” who saved her knew her. The doctor is clearly starting to put things together.
The Fisks Clean Up Their Mess
Earlier in the episode, one of the Wilson Fisk’s less than loyal henchmen met with Vanessa and clearly thought she might be willing to double cross her husband. However, it appears she’s not quite as “turnable” as he thought. As the episode draws to a close, she texts the goon that Wilson is alone at a restaurant.
When he goes to said restaurant to kill the Kingpin of Crime, it turns out he wasn’t alone after all, and Buck shoots the man before he can finish pulling out his gun. Fisk then tells Buck to ask Vanessa if she’d like some food brought home from the restaurant, an apparent nod towards “tell my wife I’m fine.”
