Summary
In February 2025,Buffy the Vampire Slayerfans heard Hulu had almost given the reboot a pilot order, and since then, it’s been fun thinking about which people who populate Buffy Summers’s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) world could come back. Since the original series aired from 1997 to 2003, fans have been curious about the next phase of Buffy’s journey for a long time, and there has been talk of a reboot for a while.
Althoughthe reboot is focusing on new stories about new characters, it seems possible that a few older characters will return along with tough and beloved Buffy herself. But who could be helping the next generation? Could it beRupert Giles (Anthony Head), the librarian and watcherwho was such a big part of Buffy’s young life? Or what about Buffy’s good friends and members of the Scooby Gang? Fans have one key character in mind, but could it really happen?
Should Faith Return To The Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot?
Fans wonder if Faith Lelane (Eliza Dushku) could come backfor theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot since she was such a significant part of the original series. WhenFaith shows up in season 3, she and Buffy can’t stand each other, but they change their minds about each other as time progresses.Redditor @yeahyoureboredposted:
“Do we think Eliza will come back to play Faith? What would Faith even be up to- in 2025? Is she still good? Did she go back to evil? A mom with kids, even? I think Eliza was perfectly cast as Faith and still can jump back into the character.”
Redditor @Ok_Frame_4117 thinksFaith can be left in the pastbecause the end of her arc was great. Faith comes back to Sunnydale to help out for the epic battle in theBuffyseries finale, and then appears in a few episodes ofthe spinoffAngelas she and Angel eventually turn their conflict into friendship. The fan wrote:
“I also think that Faith is one of the few characters whose story was perfect, I wouldn’t change anything and wouldn’t continue it either.”
Others pointed out thatDushku has stopped acting. Her last TV appearance was three episodes ofBullthat aired in 2017, along with the 2017 TV filmThe Saint. She also might not want to return toBuffysince, in 2021, Dushku posted a social media message supportingher co-star Charisma Carpenter, who alleged that creator and showrunner Joss Whedon harassed her and behaved inappropriately, asDeadlinereported.
Redditor @Aezetry wonders ifonly Buffy Summers will return for the reboot. While some could argueit’s a shame that Buffy won’t be the main character anymore, at least fans will get to see this smart and strong character again. The fan wrote:
“Eliza has retired from acting at this point, and has started her own business outside of Hollywood. I highly doubt the character will come back. I gotta be honest, I doubt anyone besides Buffy will come back for the new series and truthfully I hope that’s what happens.”
How Could Faith Appear On The Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot?
One fan suggested in the same Reddit thread that Faith could be in charge of a group of “wayward slayers.” Since Faith is still alive, it’s easy for her to come back. Other popular characters likeAnya Jenkins (Emma Caulfield) passed away, which would make it a challenge to write them back into the story.
Many would likely agree thatBuffy and Faith’s sometimes tense dynamic was fun to watch, as they didn’t like each other when Faith was introduced inBuffy the Vampire Slayerseason 3, episode 3, “Faith, Hope & Trick.” If Faith appears on theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot even briefly, perhaps she and Buffy exchange funny and witty banter for old times' sake. Even if Faith comes back for part of one episode, it would be cool to learn what she’s doing now and how her time in Sunnydale affected her and led her to where she is today.
