Summary

Fans have heard that there could bea new main character named Novain theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot, and I’m thrilled that the series is coming back.Buffyaired on The WB for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003 and it was exciting, moving, and entertaining watching Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) become a young adult andsave the world while living somewhat of a regular life. At the time of this writing, there are no further updates on the reboot, but in early February,Varietyreported that it was close to a pilot order at Hulu.

Given the exciting story possibilities of following a new vampire hunter as she adjusts to high school life and her new identity, I can’t wait to see what other new characters are explored. But I also can’t help butwish that one original character could come back. One of the stars ofBuffy the Vampire Slayerrecently talked about whether they could reprise their role, and I think they should.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia

I Want Charisma Carpenter’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer Character Cordelia Chase To Come Back For The Reboot

According toCollider,Charisma Carpenter talked about whether she would like to come back to theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot at Comic Con in Indiana. She said, “I hope so. From what I understand, there isn’t even a pilot at the moment, so I hope — if I am involved — Ihope so in some fashion it’s more in a substantive way. That would be my dream.” She also said “it would be very poetic to be invited back.”

I would be happy to see Carpenter play Cordelia again on theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot and thinkCarpenter should return in one episode. Fans would have fun seeing Buffy Summers, Cordelia, and perhapsschool librarian and Buffy’s watcher Giles (Anthony Head)appear in a scene together. Maybe Buffy could ask Cordelia to share some of the wisdom and experience she has from working on supernatural cases ontheBuffyspinoffAngel. Since Cordelia is a minor character on the original series, she doesn’t need to come back as a regular cast member. But even just seeing her in one episode would be enough for me.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Cordelia talking to Xander

There are two main reasons I want to see Cordelia again. For one thing, I thinkher bubbly yet sarcastic and intelligent personalitywould bring a lot to the table. WhiletheBuffy the Vampire Slayerseries finale is darkand serious, since the characters are saving the world, the first few seasons in particular balance humor with fighting back against vampires and demons. Cordelia’s banter, constant frustration, and realization that being popular isn’t all that fun add a lot to the show. I would be curious to seewho Cordelia is todayand how she has grown up.

I also don’t think theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot willfeel complete unless a few familiar characters appear. It would be particularly fun to see Cordelia interact with Nova, who is thought to be the new main character on the reboot. Maybe Buffy reaches out to Cordelia because she’s having trouble getting through to Nova or inspiring her, and Cordelia could help out. Although Buffy and Cordelia don’t get along inBuffy the Vampire Slayerseason 1,perhaps they have put their issues aside and get along better now.

What Happened To Cordelia Chase On Buffy The Vampire Slayer And Angel?

Cordelia leavesBuffy the Vampire Slayerafter season 4and joins the spinoff seriesAngel, and bytheAngelseason 1 finale, Cordelia and Buffy Summers’swise love interest Angel (David Boreanaz)are in the swing of things running Angel Investigations together. It’s fun watching Cordelia on the spinoff since she’s a fun and light-hearted character who is more intelligent than she appears.

In an interview withComplexin 2019, Charisma Carpenter talked about how important Cordelia was onAngel, especially when she began having visions. She said:

“I think Cordelia became lovable and then in the first season, episode 9 when she got the visions, she became vulnerable. I think then we got to see her fleshed out a little bit more and find her less annoying and more endearing. Then her relationship blossoming and her showing up for Angel repeatedly.”

Carpenter also told Complex"her visions are her pain which are the impetus to her emotional growth,“which is an interesting way of looking at how the character progresses on theBuffyspinoff. If Cordelia could even appear briefly on theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot, hersense of humor and self-assured personalitywould be welcomed.
