Star Overdrive Takes Inspiration from Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Star Overdrive’s hoverboard is highly customizable, allowing players to change its design and color scheme. It also supports installing a variety of modules that can be used to boost its specs across several performance categories, including speed and steering. In a recent interview with Game Rant, Caracal Games founder Tommaso Bonanni said that theStar Overdrivedevelopers are massiveBreath of the Wildfans, adding that the upcoming game aims to capture what they loved the most from the 2017Zeldaentry while simultaneously being its own thing.
Star Overdrive’s open world offers approximately 105 square miles of an alien planet to explore. While players will spend a lot of time speeding across landscapes, combat will also be part of the package—and even incorporate the game’s hoverboard mechanics. Much likeBreath of the Wild,Star Overdriveaims to facilitate emergent, physics-based gameplay, encouraging players to experiment with the game’s systems in order to overcome combat challenges, solve puzzles, and get around.
Star Overdrivehas been available for pre-ordersince late March 2025. It’s now slated to arrive this Thursday, April 10. The base game will retail for $34.99 / €34.99, with its Deluxe Edition being priced at $5 more. The higher-tier edition comes with one unique hoverboard design, three hoverboard styles, and 50 dyes. This $39.99 package also includes the game’s soundtrack and a digital version of an original companion manga.
Star Overdriveis slated to hit the market as a Switch exclusive. That notwithstanding, the game’s Steam page has been live since its summer 2024 announcement, so it’s seemingly only a matter of time beforeStar Overdrivemakes the jump to PC.
