Christian Bale’s Rant On The Set Of Terminator: Salvation Didn’t Tell The Full Story

Fans ofBosch: Legacywere delighted to see Chris Browning return asPreston Bordersin a dramatic story arc in the final season. Borders finally got to have his showdown withHarry Bosch, and it was great to see Browning share the screen withTitus Welliverone final time. Welliver is just one of many great actors Browning has worked alongside, and whenGame Rant asked him to pick his ultimate favorite, he was very firm in his response: Christian Bale. The pair worked together on3.10 to Yumabefore re-uniting onTerminator: Salvationtwo years later. Browning revealed he was on set whenChristian Balehad THAT iconic outburst:

I’ve worked with him twice and he’s a lovely guy. I was there when he went off on the dude and the screaming and yelling and all that stuff. Well, you didn’t see the build-up. That’s the thing. It’s like in football when a guy gets an unnecessary roughness penalty of 15 yards for shoving somebody. It’s because someone just shoved him. And when you retaliate, that’s what they see. They see a little scuffle, they look over, they see you shove the dude, you get the penalty.

The media put a negative spin on the incident when it was leaked back in 2009, but Browning’s revelation puts a very different perspective on it. Nothing is ever what it seems, and there was clearly a lot more to the infamous incident. Browning added:

I saw him be very polite and ask very nicely several times. It’s like, I’m sorry, we’re rehearsing right here. Maybe you could not walk in between us. This is a very emotional scene, and we’re trying to be connected here and having somebody go, ‘Hey, Jimmy, turn down two and make that one bluer, a little 10% bluer.’ And then he’s just like, ‘Oh, sorry, man, sorry.’ And, you know, but after you add 50 odd 14-hour days into the mix, and every time it happens again, you feel less and less respected. I wouldn’t have lasted that long.

Christian Bale Was A Generous Performer Who Offered Advice On The Craft Of Acting While On The Set Of Terminator: Salvation

Christian Bale isn’t the only actor to lose control of his emotions on the set of a big-budget movie. A recording was leaked of Tom Cruise passionately expressing his dislike for COVID protocols being broken on the set ofMission: Impossible: Dead Reckoninga few years back. However, put in context, that movie had been shutdown multiple times, and the studio was losing money. Contrary to the media portrayal of Christian Bale’s outburst on the set ofTerminator: Salvation, Browning painted a very different side to the legendary actor’s overall behavior.

He knows people’s names, and he’s super-polite, treats everybody the same. He just couldn’t have been a better guy. He’s also a generous performer. He wants to make sure everyone else is getting all the information and putting the best performance in. I’d watch him work, and I’d ask him about it. And he would credit some other actor with teaching him that.

Browning revealed that one of the actors Christian Bale credited with honing his acting skills was the one and only, Michael Caine:

We were on Batman together. And I’m thinking, I got to put all this mustard on every single line because I’m Batman, you know? And Michael took him under his wing and he was like, just do nothing, man. And pick a fg eye, you know? He said, “If you’re thinking of it, they’re going to see it because your eyes are 30 feet tall in the theater.'' And that’s the reason that poker players have sunglasses on. Because if you think for a fg split second, I got four f*****g aces. Everybody’s going to fold.
