Borutofans have reason to celebrate, as it has been officially announced that the anime sequel is in the works right now. The anime adaptation ofBoruto: Naruto Next Generationshas been on hiatus since March 2023, and fans have been eagerly awaiting news of its return.
However, just likeNaruto,theBorutoanime has a lot of filler events, and there is one that is especially important in the sequel. Therefore, the anime production will have to explain something about Sarada’s rank in the new series.
There Is A Problem With Sarada’s Ranking In The Anime
As happened withNaruto, the anime adaptation ofBoruto: Naruto Next Generationsis full of fillers, episodes or even arcs that don’t exist in the manga. These fillers were created when the animation was catching up with the source material, still in progress.
For this reason, fillers don’t usually take the main plot anywhere. Their purpose is to slow down the story by opening an original, but in a way that doesn’t affect the main story (or affect it as little as possible). However, since the source material is still being developed, it is common for fillers to end up contradicting the later events, since the production (and maybe even the creator) didn’t know what would happen later.
In the case ofBoruto, at least they had a lot ofNarutomediato use as inspiration while waiting for the manga to advance, and that’s why the series has adapted many novels. Even so, the series ended up with some relevant differences to the original, and one of them will surely have to be addressed in Part 2.
In the anime, Sarada Uchiha takes the Chunin Exam, and passes it in Episode 226. InBoruto: Two-Blue Vortex,however, it is relevant that Sarada is still a genin. So, the anime will have to give an explanation as to why Sarada is now a genin even though she was a chunin when the series ended.
That Is Easy To Fix, Honestly
While fans who only watch the anime may find it strange that Sarada is once again a genin, it is not hard to come up with an excuse. In Boruto Two-Blue Vortex, Eida’sOmnipotence ability twists realityand makes Boruto and Kawaki swap places in almost everyone’s memory.
Sarada, however, knows that everything is wrong, even though she may not understand exactly what is going on or why this is happening. Shikamaru, who is acting as a provisional Hokage in Naruto’s absence, has kept her as a genin, apparently as a way to punish her for her “rebellious” attitude and force her to change her mind.
Thus, the anime could take advantage of this andestablish that Shikamaru lowered her rankas part of that punishment. This would actually give a pretty good idea ofhow ostracized Boruto is nowin Konoha now that everyone thinks he killed Naruto.
When Will Boruto Finally Return?
It has finally been confirmed thatBoruto Part 2is in development. A few rumors had suggested that Pierrot had been working on the series for a while, but now the studio officially confirmed it. However,no release date has been announced yet.
Pierrot putBorutoon hold in 2023 because the series had caught up with the manga. A few months later,Boruto Two-Blue Vortex, set two years afterGenerations, began serialization following a hiatus.
The studioapparently wanted to focus solely onBleach: A Thousand-Year Blood Warin order to deliver high-quality animation. However, it seems more likely that Pierrot will first releaseNaruto’s anniversary special seriesbefore a newBorutoseason.
Will It Still Be Called “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations”?
Since the next part will adaptTwo-Blue Vortex,Part 2 will probably be calledBoruto: Two-Blue Vortex. Pierrot is also changing the way they produce anime series, moving to a seasonal schedule like most anime productions these days.
Boruto’s return could also meangood news forBlack Cloverfans, another anime that has been on hiatus for a long time.
