Borutomay not be a fan favorite of many formerNarutoreaders, butBoruto: Two Blue Vortexhas masterfully expanded the lore of the series and introduced amazing new jutsu, and it seems there is even more to come.
Rasengan is one of the strongestkeitai henka(shape transformation) jutsu inNaruto, andBoruto: Two Blue Vortexintroduces an even more powerful variation of this technique, called Rasengan Uzuhiko, which adds potentially unlimited power to the jutsu by employing “planetary chakra”. But how was Rasengan Uzuhiko created, and what exactly is the difference between the regular Rasengan and its Uzuhiko variant?
What’s The Difference Between Rasengan And Rasengan Uzuhiko?
Rasengan is a technique invented by Minato Namikaze, Naruto’s father, because he wanted Kushina Uzumaki, Naruto’s mother, to be able to properly fight against tough enemies. SinceKushina was thejinchurikiof the Nine Tails, she would be sent on many difficult missions and would be exposed to great dangers. With that in mind, Minato wanted to create a jutsu that would take advantage of her chakra volume, and he was inspired by the Tail Beast Ball.
Contrary to many jutsu, Rasengan doesn’t require any kind of hand seal; the user “simply"gathers chakra in the palm of their hands and makes it turn into a “chakra ball”. It is a strong jutsu, even more powerful than Chidori, and it can cause massive damage. It is considered one of the most advanced chakra’s shape transformation (keitai henka) techniques.
While Rasengan may seem easy to perform, as there is no need for a hand seal, it actually requires massive chakra control, making it quite difficult to learn.
On the other hand,Rasengan Uzuhikois avariation of Rasengan invented by Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto’s son, in which, instead of using only his own chakra, healso gathers the so-called “planetary chakra”.
What Exactly Is “Planetary Chakra”?
As the name suggests, planetary chakra is energy that comes from the planet — that is,centrifugal energy generated along with the planet’s rotation(and apparently translation too). The power of this technique depends on how much planetary chakra the user can gather, but this addition opens up a new possibility, and makes Rasengan much more powerful, reaching unlimited power (at least hypothetically).
However, in order to gather this energy, the user must remain connected to the planet, which means that both of their feet must remain on the ground (though it is possible that in the future, Boruto will only need to keep one part of his body in contact with the ground). Thus, they cannot jump while preparing this jutsu, so they will be in a potentially unfavorable position before using it. Rasengan Uzuhiko should be safer to use when fighting in groups, as someone else can support the user while they prepare to attack.
A Rasengan that incorporates a planet’s chakra — its rotation. That’s what Uzuhiko is.
— Boruto Uzumaki in Boruto TBV
Also, on planets with Divine Trees, the potential power of this technique probably diminishes over time, as the Trees will absorb the planet’s chakra over time (though this would hardly be noticeable during a normal human’s lifetime).
Who Can Use Rasengan Uzuhiko?
Boruto is the one who created the technique, which is introduced inBoruto Two Blue Vortex, andhe is the only one who has used it so far. However, it is possible that other characters will eventually learn this jutsu in the future.
It would be interesting to see two characters perform this jutsu at the same time — Himawari would probably be able to perform a massively powerful Rasengan Uzuhiko as the newjinchurikiof the Nine Tails. Also, characters who have the Sharingan, such as Sarada Uchiha, might be able to reproduce it at some point in the story.
Boruto Two Blue Vortexis serialized in Shueisha’sV-JUMPin Japan and, luckily, it ispublished worldwide on MANGA Plusfollowing the Japanese schedule — thechapters are available in many languages on the service.
Boruto Two Blue Vortex Chapter 21will be released on April 20 at 8:00 AM (PT) / 11:00 AM (ET), if no sudden changes take place.
