Despite a slow monthly-release schedule, theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga has steadily expanded on the narrative, along with introducing an entirely new roster of powers and characters. While characters such as Boruto, Kawaki, andSarada have received an entirely new set of power-upsand godly abilities, one character in particular from the original trio remains sidelined — Mitsuki.
Despite his status of being part of Team 7, Mitsuki was underutilized during the originalBorutomanga. Unfortunately, this trend has trickled down toBoruto Two Blue Vortexas well, with Mitsuki’s role being somewhat negligible in the narrative. While he did receive a few moments in the spotlight, his overall role in the grand scheme of things is rather limited. While some may say that he has received adequate attention considering he’s merely a support character, others believe that Mitsuki can potentially play a much bigger role due to his latent powers.

While it’s true that Mitsuki received considerable limelight in theBoruto: Naruto Next Generationsanime, the same cannot be said for its manga counterpart. Since manyBorutoviewers are anime-only, they remain unaware of the fact that the manga gave Mitsuki limited attention. The anime canon episodes of theBorutoanime may have treated Mitsuki fairly, considering he was present in almost every majorbattle of Team 7and even played a significant role in defeating many antagonists, yet the manga failed to give Mitsuki enough opportunities to shine.
Since the manga primarily revolved aroundthe Otsutsuki Clan membersand Kara’s threat, along with Kawaki’s introduction, there wasn’t room for side characters to receive enough panels to shine through. Still, it’s worth considering that Mitsuki was present in some of Team 7’s major battles, whether it was their fight against Boro or the initial encounters against the members of Kara, such as the fight with Ao. Fans were hoping Mitsuki would be treated better after the time skip, yet his significance has dwindled even more in theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga, forcing viewers to wonder whether his potential is being wasted in the manga.
Mitsuki’s Role in Two Blue Vortex
Two Blue Vortex Has Shifted Focus Towards Other Characters
With only 20 chapters out so far inBoruto Two Blue Vortex, most characters haven’t received much attention, largely due to new antagonistic threats taking over the narrative. Mitsuki’s case is quite similar, since he has only played a minimal role in the overall narrative. He was first witnessed during the initial chapters ofTwo Blue Vortexwhen he confronted Boruto in an attempt to defeat him. This was also the first timeMitsuki’s new Sage Modewas witnessed in action, a power-up that puts him on the map as one of the strongest characters inTwo Blue Vortex.
However, the fight swiftly ended by the end of the chapter, and Mitsuki’s new power was never exactly fleshed out. Apart from this, Mitsuki played a role in the fight againstthe God Tree Clone Ryu. Outside of these select few battles, however, Mitsuki’s presence in the manga has been almost non-existent. With the Shinju taking over the manga’s premise, along with the unresolved threat of Omnipotence, there has been little room for ancillary characters to receive any panels in the manga.
Is Mitsuki Underutilized in the Narrative?
Mitsuki’s Has Fulfilled His Role As an Ancillary Character
From one perspective, it might seem like Mitsuki’s character has been sidelined for the most part inBoruto Two Blue Vortex. While this is true to some extent, since he hasn’t played much of a significant role so far in the manga, it’s still worth considering that Mitsuki is supposed to be a supporting characterfor Boruto’s primary cast. Since it has been established that Mitsuki’s role is to merely support the primary characters of the series, it’s safe to say that Mitsuki’s character has played its intended role, albeit one that simply deems him a side character and nothing more.
SinceTwo Blue Vortex’spremise has primarily focused on the events that unfoldeddue to Ada’s omnipotence, along with Code’s actions that led to the God Tree Clones’ formation, the narrative hasn’t exactly found a place to use Mitsuki’s character to drive the plot forward. While he was involved in the battle against Ryu, it was merely a team fight and his overall presence in the manga has been quite limited. However, this ancillary role for Mitsuki makes sense to a certain degree, considering none of these events have much to do with him directly.
Since the manga is currently focused on advancing the plot surrounding Kawaki, Boruto, andthe Shinju Clones threat, the author hasn’t exactly found the right time for Mitski’s character to shine through, though he has still received adequate moments to shine through. While it’s true that Mitsuki’s potential is being wasted by being pinned as a mere side character, it’s safe to say that he’s certainly not underused in the manga, as he has perfectly played his role as an ancillary character.
Why Mitsuki Should Have a More Central Role
Mitsuki’s Strength and Close Bond With Boruto Deems Him a Significant Character
With the way the events have been moving forward inTwo Blue Vortex, Mitsuki hasn’t exactly found the right place to shine through. Moreover, the plot hasn’t focused on him either, sidelining him as a mere accessory for now. However, Mitsuki should certainly have a more central role in the narrative for a number of reasons. Firstly, Mitsuki isa member of Team 7, and he is supposed to mirror Sasuke’s role in the original Team 7. However, Mitsuki’s significance as a member of Team 7 and the original trio in Boruto has been neglected altogether due to other events taking precedence.
Secondly, Boruto is Mitsuki’s sun, a symbolic element that was used in the beginning ofBorutothat defined Mitsuki and Boruto’s relationship. With Mitsuki being drawn towards Boruto, their bond has been one marked with loyalty and integrity. However, Omnipotence has changed this premise altogether, with Mitsuki now believing that Kawaki is his sun. This internal turmoil in Mitsuki is quite evident, as he even held back duringhis fight against Borutoin the beginning ofTwo Blue Vortex, since he was aware that something wasn’t quite right. Since Mitsuki is internally aware of the fact that Boruto might not be the enemy, and Kawaki is not his son, Mitsuki has much more at stake in the entire Omnipotence fiasco.

However, this aspect of Mitsuki’s character hasn’t exactly been explored either, which is certainly a wasted moment in theBoruto Two Blue Vortexmanga. Lastly, Mitsuki is a powerhouse in himself, as he was already the strongest member of Team 7 inBoruto: Naruto Next Generations. Furthermore,Two Blue Vortexhas deemed him to be an even stronger character, especially with his newfound Sage Mode that exceeds far beyond his original capabilities. With such a power at his disposal, coupled with his close ties to Boruto, Mitsuki certainly deserves a more central role in the overall narrative that would put his potential to good use.
