Borderlands 4’s Release Date Change Isn’t Because of GTA 6
As Take-Two Interactive is the parent company of both Gearbox Software and Rockstar Games, fans have been speculating forsome time thatBorderlands 4’s release date may be tied toGrand Theft Auto 6. Many have already theorized thatGrand Theft Auto 6likely won’t launch in September, as Take-Two won’t want two of its titles competing with each other. However, withBorderlands 4’s release date now moving forward by almost two weeks, some believe it may be due toGrand Theft Auto 6’s release date possibly being set for the end of September or the start of October. Unfortunately, Randy Pitchford says that’s not the case.
The CEO didn’t mentionGrand Theft Auto 6specifically, but did note that the studio’s decision tochangeBorderlands 4’srelease dateis “literally 0% about any other product’s actual or theoretical release date.” The statement comes after fans took to social media to speculate that the change was to “make room forGrand Theft Auto 6.”
Take-Two Interactive has already stated that itwon’t releaseBorderlands 4andGrand Theft Auto 6near each other, as Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said it wouldn’t “stack up huge releases unnecessarily.” The surprising change toBorderlands 4’s release date, coupled with Take-Two’s stance on releasing the two titles close together, is why fans have speculated that the studio is attempting to create a decent-sized gap between the two titles.
The first trailer forGrand Theft Auto 6was released all the way back in December 2023, but Rockstar Games has remained silent on the highly anticipated release ever since. With it being more than 500 days since any significant news on the title, fans are beginning to grow impatient, which is why such wild theories are emerging almost weekly. But with a new Take-Two earnings call set for May 15, fans are hoping that a second trailer could finally be on the way.
