In everyBlue Princerun, Simon starts out in the entrance to the manor. Though your instinct might be to open the doors todraft rooms and start exploring, the front doors remain unlocked, and you can go outside into the front courtyard and surrounding areas whenever you like. To the west of the manor, you will find the West Gate, which leads to a bridge and a forested area.
If you try to open the West Gate, you will find that it won’t budge. Though the lock is just within arms reach on the other side of the gate, to unlock the West Gate, you must draft a specific room, power it, thenuse a special mechanism to access the outdoor areajust beyond the West Gate.Blue Princeplayers can use this guide to learn where the West Gate is, how to unlock the West Gate, and what rewards wait for you beyond.
Blue Prince West Gate Unlocks & Location
If youexit the manor from the entrance room and turn right, you will see a small locked gate that seems to out into the forest on the west side of the estate. The West Gate is located, as its name might suggest, to the west of the manor, directly across the front courtyard from the open gate that leadsback to Simon’s campsite on the outskirts of the estate.
If youunlock the West Gate,Blue Princeplayers will be able to access a unique area: the Outdoor room, also called The Grounds. Once the West Gate unlocks,Blue Princewill permanently keep it unlocked throughout all of your future runs.
From the start of your next run, you can sprint straight to the Grounds room and draft a unique Outdoor room.
It costs 3 steps to run outside, through the gate, and into whichever room you choose to draft, then another 3 to get back into the manor.
Here you will be able to draft Outdoor-only rooms such as the Shelter, Hovel, Toolshed, Trader Outpost, Root Cellar, and many more. These rooms provide bonuses that no other room can offer – the Toolshed grants 4x free special items, for example, while the Shelter protects you from the effects of Red Rooms.
How To Open The West Gate In Blue Prince
Step One: Draft the Garage In The West Wing & A Utility Room
To reach the other side of the fence and unlock the West Gate,Blue Princeplayers must draft both a Garage and a Utility Room. The Garage can only be drafted in the west wing, on the far left side of the 5x9 grid, andrequires you to spend a Gemto be drafted. The Utility Room is a dead-end room that can be drafted anywhere in the house. These rooms do not need to connect.
Step Two: Power The Garage & Open The Garage Door
In the Utility Room, open the breaker and turn the power “on” for the Garage room. Walk back to the Garage, and you will notice that the Garage Door activator has turned from red to green. Interact with this button, which should be on the wall next to the entrance to the Garage, and the door will open, leading the way outdoors.
Step Three: Walk Outside, Then South To Cross A Bridge
Pick upthe three Keys that always appearin the Garage, then head outside. Explore for a moment to find a locked fence to the west, then head south through a break in the stone wall and across a plank of wood on top of a stream. From here, you will see a path that leads left and a path that leads right – the path that leads right will take you to the Grounds, where you’re able to draft a special Outdoor Room.
Step Four: Unlock West Gate Permanently
To find and unlock the West Gate,Blue Princeplayers should head left (east) after crossing the wooden plank. This path leads to the opposite side of the West Gate from the manor entrance. Interact with the gate lock to lift it and permanently unlock the West Gate.
From here on out, this path will always be unlocked, and you will be able to access the Grounds from the start of every run. However, the wood plank that spans the stream will not be there in future runs. The wood plank bridge only appears if you exit the manor via the Garage Door.
