Summary

There’s no doubt that “USS Callister” is one of the most popular episodes in theBlack Mirroruniverse and has become a cult classic. But the episode ends with a massive cliffhanger with the crew of the spaceship fighting for their lives and trying to get out of here. The crew is different than all the Infinity game players and needs credits to survive, or else, something catastrophic will happen to them. In its sequel, “USS Callister: Into Infinity,” viewers see the crew trying hard to be alive and raiding other players to steal their credits.

But these raids are not liked by other players, which makes the narrative more intriguing. Nanette Cole is heading the ship now and giving orders, while the others are doing their respective jobs. They might have found a way to get out of this virtual reality, but it would need a lot of work and help from someone who is not a part of the game anymore. Will Cole be able to save everyone? Or something diabolical is waiting for the entire crew. Let’s take a look at how Episode 6 ofBlack MirrorSeason 7 concluded.

What is Black Mirror Season 7 Episode 6 ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ about?

The Season 7 finale, “USS Callister: Into Infinity,” continues the story from Season 4 ofBlack Mirror. After Robert Daly’s death, Nanette Cole (Cristin Milioti) now leads the USS Callister crew. To survive, they raid other players for credits, but strange glitches are causing real pain in the game, even without blood. Players are getting angry, and survival is harder than ever. In the real world, Nanette helpsJames Walton (Jimmi Simpson)track down these bandits. Walton uncovers dark secrets about Daly’s cloning of real people in the game. Nanette finds a risky escape plan, but it needs help from someone believed to be dead.

In the real world, a New York Times journalist talks to Walton about the company and the death of Daly. He continues to press him on why Daly had a DNA cloner machine at his home, and when Walton can’t answer those questions, he tells the journalist to leave. On the other hand. Nanette overheard everything and told Walton everything about what Daly did, and how he created clones of some of the office members. Walton finds Daly’s old computer system and gives Nanette access to it so she can try to fix the problem. Meanwhile, the clone version of Nanette comes up with an idea—to build a safe, private version of the Infinity game, just like Daly’s, but without the danger. She plans to move the whole crew into this new world and then close it off so no one can reach them. However, to do this, they would need Walton’s help to access the source code, but the clone version of Walton had already died. But it seems that Walton is alive somewhere because his room is still present inside the spaceship. As a result, they make their way to the planet and meet Walton.

While they were about to leave, the real Nanette and Walton showed up. They tell others they mean no harm and only want to help. Then, all four of them return together to the USS Callister. On the ship, the crew shares their plan to enter the Heart of Infinity and build a safe world of their own. But just as they’re about to do it, the real Walton suddenly picks up a huge gun and starts shooting at them. Why? Because they are illegal in the game universe. Meanwhile, in the real universe, Nanette leaves the game and says she wants to quit. But as she steps onto the road, a car suddenly hits her, and she falls to the ground, unconscious. On the ship, the crew is trying to accomplish the mission, but Walton reveals that the heart of infinity is nothing but another clone version of Daly. In the flashback sequences, it is also revealed that it was Walton who got his hands on the DNA cloner, so that he could do his illegal stuff. Additionally, Daly’s clone version is stuck in the heart of infinity so that he can work endlessly. This shows why the real Walton is so eager to stop anyone from reaching the Heart of Infinity. If they succeed, he’ll lose his big money-maker—and might even end up in jail.

How does Black Mirror Season 7 Episdoe 6 ‘USS Callister: Into Infinity’ end?

Cole in both universes is struggling. The clone version of Cole calls the real version, but when a doctor picks up the call, they realize that the real Cole is in a coma and might not be able to come out of it. Despite knowing about the dangers of going to the heart of infinity, Cole chooses to take a chance and take a journey to the heart of infinity. When she reaches there, Cole sees clone Daly inside a virtual version of his garage, working with his hands and mind to grow the Infinity world. After a tense meeting, she tells him the truth: the real Daly made a private world and cloned his coworkers to control and torture them while pretending to be a space captain. She also tells him that the real Daly is now dead.

After listening to her, Daly uploads their new universe onto a green floppy disk, which could help the crew get out of this virtual space. However, he also comes forward with another option and tells Cole about the red floppy disk, which would help her transport herself into her real-world body. But there’s a catch: if she decides to return to her real-life body, the other clones present inside the USS Callisterwill die and never be seen again. In short words, either she can save herself or she can save her crew. Without any guesses, she chooses to save her crew. But Daly tells her about a “blue floppy disk” that can be used to save everyone. However, he tells her that he wants to make another clone of her to accompany him in the heart of infinity and will treat her nicely. But Cole knew that Daly would hurt her and get into a fight with him. Meanwhile, on the ship, the real Walton enters the game and takes out the clone version of himself before meeting the other members. However, his cover is blown, but before others can do anything about him, he hits the “Invite Party” button and puts the entire crew in danger. A couple of players arrive and attack their ship. With no credits remaining, one more attack would mean the end of the crew.

Before that can happen, Cole was able to defeat Daly in a fight and insert the Blue floppy disk in the system to save everyone. Moreover, the game is deleted permanently. The episode ends with all the USS Callister crew living inside the real Cole’s head, while Walton is thrown into jail for his crimes.
