Summary

InArk: Survival Ascended, regardless of whether a player is playing PvP or PvE as a solo or as part of a big tribe, one thing is universal. The NEED to farm. Whether that is for meat, crops, raw or organic materials, farming is essential to progressing meaningfully in the game. Taming creatures will make farming less tedious, as they do it quicker and more efficiently.

Arkprovides a wide array of dinosaurs and creatures that excel at gathering a variety of different resources. In this guide, dinosaurs will be highlighted for their excellent farming capabilities and utility, from most useful to least. This will help new and experienced players alike to make their future farming runs more efficient, so they can get back to doing the fun things faster.

Ark: Surival Ascended: Anky on land and swimming

10Ankylosaurus

Versatile Metal Farming Dinosaur

All players utilize the Anky, which typically comes to mind when they talk about the best farming dinosaurs. The Anky is an early game powerhouse and is great for late game farms too.The Anky is the best for harvestingmetal and crystal. Additionally, it is great at collecting obsidian and flint, butarguably, the Dunkleosteusand Fasolasuchus are better, respectively. The Dunkleosteus is arguably better for crystal, too, if the player is solo. Further, the Anky is good underwater, a better fighter there than on land, due to being surprisingly fast and able to attack while moving. Due to this, it can even get oil off the ocean floor.

Additionally, the Anky can harvestelement shards, sulfur, cactus sap, thatch, wood, stone, and berries, making it a great early tame for most resource-gathering purposes.Players using this tame shouldaim to lift the Anky with an Argentavis, which reduces the weight of crystal, metal ore and ingots, stone, and obsidian by 50%, so they can off-load extra harvested resources onto it directly or transfer all materials and cryopod the Anky. Additionally, try to harvest with another player, one flying and one on the dino, if possible. An easy tame, players need to tranquilize the Anky and feed it regular kibble. If a player does not have this, use crops or mejoberries.

Ark: Survival Ascended: Doedicurus hitting stone and rolling

9Doedicurus

Stone Gathering Dinosaur

This overgrown Pengolin is the best dinosaur for getting stone due to reducing the weight of the resource by 75%. The Doedic is a great early game tame, and the stone is useful for making cement paste late game. To make it better, it can be lifted by flying tames or be set to gather autonomously, while the player performs other actions. Additionally, if one needs flint and does not mind the wait, they can use its impressive stone gathering and an industrial grinder to turn the stone into flint, if needed.

The Doedic can roll for faster travel, which means it is far quicker than it first seems, and its toughness makes it difficult to kill. This is a must-tame!To tame this, players must render it unconscious and feed the Doedic their favorite food, which is regular kibble. If players do not have that, crops are a great alternative.

Ark: Survival Ascended: Mammoth Stomping and Scraping trees with its tusks for wood and thatch

8Mammoth

Wood Gatherer

The best tame in the game at gathering thatch and wood, which come in handy early in the game, as they are both materials included in 100s of recipes. Whereas, in the late game, wood is used to make charcoal, and thatch is used for saddles, which are both necessary resources. This is a staple tame and can surprisingly be lifted, like others on this list, to farm resources and get back to base quicker.

The mammoth can use its tusks to scrape thatch off trees or use its stomp to gather wood.Mammoths make great early game tames. They can fight bossesand gather rare mushrooms for antidotes, kibble, or mindwipe tonics. To effectively tamea mammoth, knock it out with tranquilizers and feed it superior kibble. Failing that, crops and mejoberries are okay.

Ark: Survival Evolved: Angler Fish gathering Silica pearls

7Anglerfish

Silica Pearl Gatherer

The Anglerfish is the only creature that can gather silica pearls. This resource is highly valuable in the mid to late game, as electronic devices need silica pearls, whether that be for C4, Turrets, Electrics, or the Generator. This resource is just too valuable not to have an Angler. Another great thing about these tames is that if players are in a small tribe, they do not need a water base. Instead, they can cryopod it and stick it in a cryofridge.

The sooner these creatures are tamed, the faster players can enter mid-game crafting and compete, somewhat, against other PvP tribes and even conduct raids, which is the fun and dangerous part of PvP servers. Additionally, they can gather keratin, fish meat, and prime fish meat.To effectively tamean Angler, use tranquilizers and feed it regular kibble. The second-best option is raw mutton, obtained from sheep.

Ark: Survival Ascended: Mantis, mining and holding swords

6Mantis

All-around Tame

The Mantis is a fast and agile tame that rightfully earns the title of the most versatile creature inArk,gathering the widest variety of materials in the game activelydue to its usage of tools. The mantis is efficient at gathering element shards and is good for element veins on PvP servers, as it is fast and can outmaneuver players who attempt to gank. The Mantis can farm plenty, but notably sulfur, flint, metal, hide, obsidian, and element shards with a pickaxe. Chitin, keratin, wood, sand, and pelt with the hatchet. Fiber and meat with the sickle. Polymer with clubs and swords.

The Mantis can also be used to knock out dinos for taming with ascendant clubs. Players should put ascendant tools on their mantis whenever possible. The Mantis is a mid-game tame.To tame the Mantis, players will need Bug Repellant to get close, and Ghillie armor is helpful too. Players will put Deathworm Horns and/or Woolly Rhino Horns into the last slot of their hot bar and feed them to the Mantis, waiting a few minutes between feeds, and repeating until tamed.

Ark: Survival Ascended: Toad eating insects and swimming

5Beezlebufo

Early Cement Paste + Chitin

The Beezlebufo is a big frog that inflicts torpor with its attacks, which can be useful for knocking out smaller dinosaurs. Further,it is fast, can jump high, and swims without an oxygen meter. However, its main purpose is to farm chitin and cement paste. These are extremely useful ingredients for crafting. Chitin makes cement paste, saddles, and armor.

Moreover, cement paste makes auto and heavy turrets, fabricated firearms, vaults, and industrial equipment, which are all necessary inArk. The Beezlebufo is an easy taming process and can be obtained early, with the only difficulty being that it needs to be tamed in the swamp. To effectively tamethis “devil frog,” players should feed it regular kibble. Failing this, raw mutton, cooked lamb chop, and prime meat make good alternatives.

Ark: Survival Ascended: Fasolasuchus, Faso facing camera, going underground, parasaur in quicksand

4Fasolasuchus

Flint Gathering Dinosaur

The Faso can get the most flint out of all dinosaurs, easily getting over 100,000.It does this by burrowing and hitting against rocks, which instantly destroys them and gives solely flint. Flint is essential for making bullets, as it is the primary ingredient in sparkpowder, which, combined with charcoal, makes gunpowder. The Faso is also a great travel mount, because medium-sized creatures will avoid attacking it.

Further, the Faso’sbite applies “armor corrode,“which increases the damage a creature takes by 2.5% per stack up to 25%. Armor corrosion is also gained by an aggressor whenever they melee the Faso, alongside 4 passive damage. Additionally, the Faso can throw sand using its tail, which deals 10 damage and makes wild creatures flee, and causes tames to be unable to attack for up to 10 seconds (depending on drag weight). Further, the Faso can surprise attack creatures from the ground and create sandstorms that reduce movement speed and shoot flying creatures out of the sky, and dismount players. Lastly, while the sandstorm is active, it can make the ground quicksand, which traps targets dealing percentage-based damage (based on health and drag weight).

Ark: Survival Ascendent: Bear farming honey

To tame a Faso, players must wait for it to burrow into the ground and throw a C4 or grenade onto the mound. Once detonated, the Faso emerges, disoriented, after which the player can interact with it to ride it and path it towards rocks. Once knocked out, it can be tamed, preferably with exceptional kibble, but raw mutton, cooked lamb chop, and prime meat make good alternatives. This is not an early game tame.

3Dire Bear

Best Giant Bee Honey Collector

The Dire Bear gathers 3x honey from giant bee hives, and bees will not knock off the player or hurt the Dire Bear. Giant Bee Honey is necessary for Sweet Vegetable Cake and can be used for some kibbles and taming. Further, they can gather organicpolymer quickly from glowing flowerson the Abberation map, which can be used as a substitute for polymer, crafting all the same recipes.

This is extremely useful, as Polymer is used in Tek tier and industrial items/structures. Dire bears are perfect tames for small to medium-sized tribes. They can be tamedvia tranquilizing darts and superior kibble. If players do not have that, giant bee honey, raw mutton, and prime meat are good alternatives. Usingtranquilizing arrows may kill it before it goes unconscious, so use tranquilizing darts.

Ark: Survival Ascendent: Bronto farming and a bronto with a platform base

2Brontosaurus

Best Berry Collector

The Bronto is an easy and amazing tame for tribes. It is best at gathering berries. This is useful for filling troughs or feeding newborn herbivore dinosaurs during breeding. Their thatch gathering is on par with the best, and they are great at clearing out areas with their big AOE melee attacks. Mobile bases may be a little gimmicky, but they can be handy on big resource runs or for non-meta raiding.

Brontos are durable, and their platform saddles may not be able to have auto turrets, tek turrets, or x-plants. However, manned turrets can be placed. If that was not enough, they are great for extra-large eggs.To tame this behemoth, players can tranquilize it and feed it exceptional kibble. Players can use crops or mejoberries, but it is less effective.

Ark: Survival Ascendent: Giganotosaurus Harvesting Meat

1Gigantosaurus

Best Meat Collector

The Giga is infamous for a reason: an amazing dinosaur for meat runs. It can collect piles of meat and fish meat to fill troughs and to help when breeding. It is also good at collecting hides. The best thing about using the Giga on a meat run is that no other creature can kill the player, except other players, and many players will not choose to fight a Giga unless they are prepped for PvP already.

This tame is also a staple of PvP. It has high HP and insane damage output to maul any dino. However, the rage meter means players must be careful when using it as a PvP dinosaur, or they will become Giga food. The best way to tame a Gigais by using metal dinosaurgateways and a bear trap. The best kibble for this iconic dinosaur is exceptional kibble. Alternatively, raw mutton is just fine.

Using anything other than kibble can cause the amount of time and narcotics needed to skyrocket. If the player can, they should make Sanguine Elixirs whenever taming for the 30% taming boost. The best farming dino is arguably the Stryder, which is released in Genesis: Part 2.
