Emma Frost is a brand-new Vanguard who was added to the massive roster inMarvel Rivalsto kick off Season 2, and it’s fair to say she’s become an extremely popular member of the cast who brings quite a lot to the table. As a Vanguard, Emma boasts a ton of health and defensive abilities to prevent her from being taken down, making her a true threat to be reckoned with whenever she shows up on the battlefield.
Thankfully, with such a diverse number of heroes and villains to choose from, there are at least several characters who can utilize their weapons and tools to get around Emma Frost’s abilities, making her much easier to deal with. She may initially feel like an immovable Vanguard who will stay standing no matter what, but theseMarvel Rivalsheroes have the best chance of counteracting her to ensure she doesn’t become too big of an issue during a match.
8Invisible Woman
Invisible Woman Excels At Keeping Emma Frost At A Distance
The Invisible Woman can heal her allies with her basic attack, but she can also do so by throwing out her Guardian Shield. These small barriers may not be as durable as the ones owned bythe Vanguards, but they can still help to shield an ally from Emma Frost’s beam-like basic attack for a second or two, causing her to waste her precious ammunition.
What also makes her a useful counter is her Force Physics ability, which can be used in both ways. On the one hand, Sue can push Emma Frost away when she goes into Diamond Form and is only able to use melee, but she can also pull her closer when Emma would rather be at a decent range, firing off her laser at the enemy from a safe distance.
7Iron Man
Tony Makes It Harder For Emma Frost To Use Her Shield Effectively
The Mind Aegis shield, which is Emma Frost’s main defensive ability, has an extremely short cooldown, but once she deploys a new one, the previous one will disappear. This isn’t too much of an issue when all of her opponents are on the ground, but Iron Man forces her to prioritize where she needs it most. Putting a shield in the sky just to try and counteractIron Manprevents her from holding back the central firepower coming from the frontlines.
Even if she does use her shields against Iron Man, his Hyper Velocity can be used to fly around the barrier to keep her distracted. Emma’s Psychic Spear also requires incredible accuracy for it to land, so Iron Man can also lure rookie Vanguard players into throwing it out into the air, ultimately wasting the ability if he can dodge it while in midair.

Thing Can Use His Heavy Punches To Keep Emma Frost Off Guard And To Stop Her From Advancing
As a Vanguard, Emma Frost comes with much more health than the average character inMarvel Rivals, but she doesn’t technically havean ability that can heal heror even give her a bonus shield. However, she does have her Diamond Form, which will reduce the amount of damage she receives, and one Vanguard who can easily scare an enemy Emma Frost into activating this form out of panic is The Thing.
Thing can jump into battle in the blink of an eye with his Embattled Leap ability, but what makes him such an effective counter is the Stone Haymaker, which can melt Emma Frost’s health bar if she’s hit only a handful of times. As mentioned earlier, this can force Emma into her Diamond Form, where Thing can either then keep applying pressure or leap back to his team to provide some extra defense for his comrades.
5Spider-Man
Spidey Can Get Past Emma Frost’s Defenses Without Breaking A Sweat Thanks To His Mobility
Admittedly, being able to use Spider-Man properly is no easy feat, considering thishit-and-run characteris still pretty squishy and can easily be killed off if the enemy team focuses fire on him. However, when in the right hands, he can be an absolute nightmare for opponents to take down, especially Emma Frost, who will have a tough time dealing damage to him, considering how quickly he can zip around the map.
By throwing out a barrage of punches now and again from behind, Spider-Man can direct Emma Frost’s attention away from the rest of his team, and since her basic attack requires a lot of accuracy to use effectively, Spidey can be a great help in keeping his team alive by throwing her off.
4The Punisher
Emma’s Shields Won’t Stand A Chance Against Punisher’s Turret
Emma Frost can throw out prettymassive shieldsto protect her and her allies with, and because these barriers are so bulky, they can be a real nuisance to deal with and will prevent the maximum amount of damage from being dealt to the enemy team. One character who can help remove this issue entirely is Punisher since his Culling Turret can melt the shield’s health bar in mere seconds if he can set it up in time.
The same also goes for his ultimate ability, which will pierce through Emma’s defenses so that Punisher’s teammates can start scoring some kills to get the upper hand in the match. Punisher’s Scourge Grenade is also handy for limiting Emma Frost’s vision, and since her main attack is fairly short in its range, it can put her out of action for a few seconds to give the team a quick breather.
3Venom
Venom’s Sturdy Durability Can Force Emma Frost To Waste Her Powers
One of the scariest abilities Emma Frost can throw out is her Carbon Crush, which acts as a command grab. Once Emma gets her hands on someone while in her Diamond Form, she will start throwing them around like a ragdoll, causing significant damage in the process, especially againstDuelistsand Strategists. Venom, however, with his Symbiote Resilience and impressive health stats, can tank this throw and shake it off like it’s nothing.
His Venom Swing ability also means he can drop himself right in front of Emma once she starts charging toward the target, meaning he can act as an effective thorn in the side of his fellow Vanguard. He may struggle to deal much direct damage to Emma on his own, but Venom can still be useful for distracting her and keeping his weaker allies safe.
2Wolverine
Wolverine Is One Of The Only Heroes Who Can Go Toe-To-Toe with Emma In Physical Combat
The Vanguard killer himself, Wolverine, is one of Emma Frost’s biggest problems, considering he can whittle down her health like there’s no tomorrow once he gets up close and personal. Emma’s Diamond Form grants her a damage reduction, meaning most Emma players will get cocky and charge in to dish out damage once she enters this form.
Wolverine can help to manage this by using his ferocious abilities, and considering how easily he can keep up the pressure by getting in her face, it ensures she won’t be going around and stomping out backline healers too easily. Wolverine’s Feral Leap ability also means he can quickly hop out of the way when Emma Frost popsher ultimateto avoid falling under her influence.
1Doctor Strange
Strange’s Shield Can Block Emma Frost’s Firepower And Deadly Ultimate Attack
If Emma Frost’s ultimate attack lingers on an enemy for too long, they will start walking toward her as a result of having their minds warped. Needless to say, this can take multiple key allies out of action with the click of a button, and considering the range of the attack, it’s extremely difficult to get away from, especially for the healers who lack a reliable and quick way to escape danger.
The good news is that her ultimate ability will not be able to bypassDoctor Strange’s Shield of Seraphim, completely negating its effects. At the same time, he also has a much better range when using his basic attack, allowing him to pick her off from afar while also providing an effective form of defense for his allies from Emma’s dangerous attacks.
