Summary
A lot of romance anime tends to deal with characters in the process of falling in love and a lot of times it cuts off when they get together and fans don’t always get to see how their characters are as partners. When this is done, it can bereally wholesomeand even eye-opening.
Anime girlfriends in this context refers to anime girls who are in a relationship with a character and aren’t married yet. This is to be differentiated from characters who people wish were their girlfriends. There are quite a lot of great options to choose from, and this is by no means an exhaustive rundown of them.
10Belldandy (Ah My Goddess!)
A Loyal Partner For Keiichi
Belldandy is the main love interest in the show, Ah My Goddess! She appears in the life of Keiichi when he accidentally calls the Goddess Relief Office when he wanted food. Belldandy appears and he says he wants her to stay forever.
Belldandy’s personality is great due to how kindhearted she is. Kindheartedness isn’t a trait that is as appreciated anymore, but when on display, is disarming. Belldandy sometimes feels like someone that couldn’t exist, then again, she is agoddess.
Keiko Yukimura is a childhood friend to Yusuke in the classic anime, Yu Yu Hakusho. They end up in a relationship and she is something of a complete opposite to Yusuke. Loving, tender, and graceful, Keiko is an ideal girlfriend.
It should be noted that while she is something of a fantasy character, this does not mean she cannot stand up to Yusuke, which is something she does repeatedly. Her calmer demeanor helps level out Yusuke, and her ability to not be intimidated by the person she is with is a great plus.
For those with only a passing knowledge of Rurouni Kenshin, Kaoru might seem like the classic ‘damsel in distress’. However, she is anything but. A strong-willed swordsman, Kaoru is a great compliment to series protagonist, Kenshin Himura.
Kaoru is strong enough to provide for a household (as she did when taking care of Kenshin, Yahiko, and Sanosuke), as a fighter, she might not be elite, but is someone to be respected especially as she was able to help in defeating Honjo, one of Shishio’selite Juppongatana. Apart from her feats, there is also the fact that she was able to accept Kenshin along with his past as long as he stayed reformed.
Sword Art Onlinehas its critics, but it does have one of anime’s great romances; Kirito and Asuna. She is a strong player in the game and from the moment she meets Kirito, there are certainly some sparks. She is also a character that benefits a lot from development and as there are manySAO entries, she has time to really evolve as a person.
As a partner to Kirito, she grows from overly depending on him to becoming someone who is able to even save him when he is in trouble. Beyond that, she is also a character that engenders devotion as seen in how Kirito is to her. She is friendly, strong, and an all-round great personality.
Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba is one of the high points of Sailor Moon and a classic relationship if there was ever one. The two start off hating each other, but soon are inseparable. The two have gone through several trials, but always find a way back to each other.
Usagi never gives up on Mamoru even after his many brainwashes. She is able to support him in both the anime and manga, the latter which sees him travel abroad for college andshe remains loyal. She is strong enough to save him and is an excellent partner. Their romance is cute and many in the fandom root for the two.
Kotoko Inagawa is the main heroine of In/Spectre and the girlfriend of Kuro Sakuragawa. Kotoko is just a fun character all-round. She’s playful, mischievous, and shameless. She doesn’t let the fact that she is missing an eye and a leg hold her back from being assertive while also being non-violent.
Kotoko is also a character that can accept Kuro for who he is and what he does. This makes her the ideal girlfriend for the quiet Kuro. She’s also a really relatable character and she worries about the same things most people with a partner might; the anxiety of having them leave, or some jealousy if they seem close to other people.
Rinko is a smallish girl who is head over heels in love with Takeo Gouda and the two enter a relationship. At first glance, it might be tempting to think of her simply as the stereotypical cute girl, but she is a lot more and her thoughtfulness and sweetness shine through.
She is a lovely partner for Takeo and apart from the fact that she truly loves him both for his looks and personality, she is also kindhearted enough not to stop him from being the self-sacrificing individual he is to other people. She is accommodating ofhis friend, Makoto, and is even a good friend to him also.
In any list of cute anime couples, the odds of finding Hori and Miyamura from Horimiya is quite high. This is for a number of reasons, and one of them is simply because Hori is a great girlfriend to Miyamura. She created a safe environment in which he could be himself and helped him become more accepted in school.
She isn’t flawless by any means, but this only makes her even more human and relatable. She gets jealous like everyone else, but ultimately, it is clear to see that her motivations are driven by her love for her boyfriend.
TheMonogatari seriesis known for its sharp, witty dialogue, but one of the most fascinating people to watch is Koyomi’s girlfriend, Hitagi Senjougahara. She is one of the very first mysteries encountered in the story and has remained a firm favorite ever since.
As a girlfriend to Koyomi, she is honest, earnest, and understanding. She enables Koyomi to speak honestly, and the dialogue between the two is usually some of the best in the series. She is someone who does not let her past define her, and this enables her to move forward with Koyomi. The relationship is by no means perfect, but it is nice that they end up together.
For many, Mai Sakurajima would be the ideal girlfriend for them. Thankfully, she is also a very suitable girlfriend for Sakuta. The main heroine from Rascal Does Not Dream might have given off the wrong impression upon first meeting since she was in a bunny outfit, but as the series progressed, it soon became clear why she is such a great character.
Mai feels very natural and has a mature carriage that makes her feel graceful. For Sakuta, she is very honest about how she feels and regularly tells him she loves him, which isn’t something so common with female love interests in anime. She handles the situation with Sakuta’s younger sister, Kaede really well, and has shown herself to be both generous and reliable.
