With this set to beLarian’s final major update forBaldur’s Gate 3, it should be a true swan song for the game before the developer entirely moves on to new projects. It’s likely that it will still remain active to patch any egregious bugs that arise from this final update, but beyond that, the game will likely be fully handed off to the community from April 15 onwards. Larian has yet to reveal what is to come from the studio, with any future title likely still years away.
It’s going to be a very tough act to follow for the studio chosen by Wizards of the Coast to developBaldur’s Gate 4. While any potential sequel deserves to be judged on its own merits, comparisons to Larian’s previous effort are both inevitable and natural. WhileseveralBaldur’s Gate 3actors remain open to returning without Larian, it will still be a big ask for any studio to provide the level of depth found in the game. This could still be many years away, so it is not something to be too concerned about at the moment.
