WhenInfinite Stratoswas first released, it was all the rage among fans of the Mecha anime, since it had high doses of action and, of course, the mandatory harem of heroinesmaking the life of the single male character in the series (literally) an absolute nightmare. Despite being categorized as a romantic school life anime, it shines due to its action scenes and unique approach to the Mecha genre. Though the protagonists ride power suits (exo-skeletons) and not mechas.

Even when it seemed like Ichika (the MC) had it all easy going, a twisted plot filled with conspiracies, betrayal, and a mysterious new female student spiced up the plot just enough to make fans forget about the shameless amount of fan service it had. Still, the animation is quite polished, and the character designs are unique despite their generic personalities.

ThoughtheTenchi Muyo!seriesstarted as an Original Video Animation and was later adapted to a series of standalone episodes (and yet more ovas likeTenchi Muyo! War on Geminar) it quickly gained popularity and became one of the flagships of the Sci-Fantasy genre in the anime world.

It narrates the misadventures of Tenchi Masaki, a not-so-normal high school boy who discovers a mysterious woman sealed in a cave, and accidentally releases her. It turns out that the woman (Ryoko) is a Space Pirate who has been trapped there for centuries. They form an awkward alliance and set out on a series of adventures together. And this series wouldn’t be the phenomenon that it is today without the appearance of a myriad of quirky female heroines that join the crew.

After thousands of years, humanity has been divided into males and females who live on two different planets, which were colonized after the destruction of Earth, and they have been at war ever since. Reproducing through advanced parthenogenesis, these societies haven’t known of direct contact between the opposite sexes for generations. But when a crew of female pirates gets into a conflict in the orbit of Taarak (the guys' planet), a young astromech gets on board of a Dread Mecha and tries to help but fails miserably and even drags two other crew members to be captured by the pirates.

Hibiki (the aspirant Mecha pilot), Duelo, a medical expert, and Baart, a rich kid, become the first point of contact with females in generations, as it turns out that males and females were raised as two separate species. While the crew members and their prisoners begin to mingle and learn from each other, a mysterious race of alien robots begins to pursue them across the galaxy, and Hibiki and some of the Van pilots have to face them in a cruel battle for survival. Amidst the battle, Hibiki and Dita, one of their finest pilots, discover that their ships can be merged into a powerful mecha that ends up becoming their main weapon against their pursuers. Packed with action, a twisted tale of spacefaring, and a final plot twist that will leave fans with their gears grinding.
