A brand-new trailer released on Saturday revealed the main staff involved in the production of Science SARU’s upcoming television anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow’sGhost in the Shell,THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, which is set to broadcast sometime in 2026. The series was first announced in May 2024, with Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G on the production committee for the series.
The new teaser is a silent trailer featuring countless clips of the series in production, revealing each main staff member before reiterating the 2026 release window. The cast of Science SARU’s upcomingGhost in the Shellproject has not yet been revealed, andMajor Kusanagi Motoko voice actress Atsuko Tanaka, sadly passed away in August last year.
Anime adaptation-wise, this new THE GHOST IN THE SHELL marks the fourth version following those by Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama. and Kazuchika Kise. Alternatively, if we separate GHOST IN THE SHELL and Innocence, categorize the S.A.C. series into Seasons 1, 2, and Solid State Society, divide ARISE into its own series along with The New Movie, and split SAC_2045 into Seasons 1 and 2, this would be the tenth adaptation overall.
Considering the shift in production staff, one could even consider this the first installment of a second generation. The original manga is quite old, so I ask for your understanding on that point (sorry!). That said, I sincerely hope this will once again be an enjoyable visual experience in some form.

Moko-chan Makes His Directorial Debut
Staff behind the upcomingTHE GHOST IN THE SHELLinclude Moko-chan, storyboarder and key animator onDANDADANandScott Pilgrim Takes Off, who is making his directorial debut on the series; whileSpace Dandyscriptwriter and author ofThe Empire of Corpses, Toh Enjoe, is responsible for the series composition. Shūhei Handa, character designer ontheLittle Witch AcademiaTV anime, serves as chief animation director and character designer. The teaser trailer also came with a brand-new visual that gives us a glimpse of the new appearance of Major Kusanagi Motoko in Handa’s style.
